Vision and Mission
Our Vision
Climate instability is one of the most urgent public health threats of the 21st century. Mental health is profoundly impacted by disruptions associated with climate change.
Since individuals only have a limited impact, we can be more effective when we join together to amplify our voices and actions.
Our Mission
We educate the profession and the public about the urgent risks of the climate crisis, including its profound impacts on mental health and well-being.
As a grassroots collaboration of psychiatrists and other mental health professionals, we aim to nimbly and creatively advocate for change—educating and motivating others to act to protect health and build a sustainable world. We are creating a forum to bring psychiatrists and other mental health professionals together to form a collective voice.
We intend:
To provide a vehicle for sharing information, promoting empowering actions, supporting rational responses, and fostering resilience;
To provide resources and information to professionals, the public, and the media about the health and mental health impacts of climate disruption;
To influence policy, through effective advocacy, to professional organizations and policy leaders at the local, state, and national levels;
To inform and educate the profession, and the public, about best practices to support individual and community mental health and well-being in the face of climate change;
To establish collaboration with like-minded national and international colleagues and groups.
Our Commitment to Social Justice
As we focus on the urgent psychological dimensions of the climate and ecological crisis, Climate Psychiatry Alliance recognizes the need to imagine a more just future world. We are increasingly horrified by and grieve for injustices throughout the world and at home and view the struggle for climate justice as aligned, both morally and practically, with all worldwide struggles for justice.
We commit to promoting the needed social, political and cultural shifts that promote equity and justice for all people(s).
Membership Requirements
All psychiatrists, mental health professionals, and climate advocates who share the commitment to restoring a sustainable, healthy climate are welcome. We are committed to collaboration and shared decision-making.
